A Game page is a page about a specific game.
Page naming
All game pages go under the "Game" namespace. The page name will be in this format: Game:Name of the Game.
Example: Game:Sonic Heroes
If the game requires disambiguation (more than 1 distinct game released with the same name), then the page will be formatted Game:Name of the Game (something), with a differentiator in parentheses. If the games were released in different years, use the year:
Game:Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) and Game:Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
If the distinct games were released in the same year but on different systems, use a system differentiator on the secondary game:
Game:Sonic Generations for the primary release, Game:Sonic Generations (Nintendo 3DS) for the secondary handheld release
Adding a game
Game pages should primarily be added using the Form:Game. This allows for easily adding game metadata and cargo relations with a form. Red links will also automatically use the form.
Form fields
The title field is the game's display title. It should be the game's true title, without disambiguation text or the Game namespace prefix. So for Game:Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), this field is just Sonic the Hedgehog. It is used for links, lists, the infobox, etc. It will also automatically be italicized, so italics don't need to be added for links: Sonic the Hedgehog.
The image field will be the an image to represent the game in the infobox, link previews, etc. This is normally just the game's boxart. The preferred order for choosing what image to use is the following, depending on what exists:
- English US boxart art without console branding
- English US boxart art with console branding
- English EU/PAL boxart
- Other language (JPN, etc) boxart
- poster/advert (for arcade games that dont have a "box")
- A logo (for unreleased games with no boxart yet)
Preferred image file formats:
- webp
- png
- jpg
The developer field is the development team that made the game. This field is a cargo relation, it links the game page to the page for the developer to allow for querying with cargo syntax, useful for making automatically updating tables. Developer pages will always be in the main namespace without a prefix. Multiple developers can be linked to a game. Select from the dropdown of already existing/previously used developers or type in one that hasn't been used before.
The publisher field is the company that published the game. This field is a cargo relation, it links the game page to the page for the publisher to allow for querying with cargo syntax, useful for making automatically updating tables. Publisher pages will always be in the main namespace without a prefix. Select from the dropdown of already existing/previously used publishers or type in one that hasn't been used before.
The platform field is what systems/platforms/etc this game was released on. This field is a cargo relation, it links the game page to the page for the system or platform to allow for querying with cargo syntax, useful for making automatically updating tables. Platform pages will always be in the main namespace without a prefix. Select from the dropdown of already existing/previously used platforms or type in one that hasn't been used before.
The release date sub forms are for adding release dates. Enter a year, month, day, and the region. If day is not known (the case for some older games), just a year and month is fine, along with the region. Canceled/unreleased games will just have no release dates.
The contributors sub form is for adding Category:contributors. A contributor is a person or group that contributed towards a game in some manner of audio/music. It could be a composer, band, singer, musician, orchestra, music artist, audio engineer, arranger, etc. Voice actors do not get added through this as they are outside the VGM Wiki's coverage. Select an existing contributor from the dropdown or enter a new one (without the Contributor: prefix). Their "role" is how they contributed to the game, usually provided in the game's credits. The notes field is for any extra information tied to this game/contributor relation, e.g. noting they were uncredited.
Track page associations are not made on the game page or through the Game form, they are instead added on the track's page with its form.
Free Text
The free text field is the rest of the page's text. All other page content goes in this field.
If there is a page for this game on any other wikis in the Special:Interwiki list, add those wikis' corresponding interwiki templates first.
An introduction paragraph(s) that summarizes some basic information about the game follows. This is whats is used in link preview summaries. Try to keep it to a max of 2 paragraphs. The interwiki templates and intro paragraphs do not have a header before them and do not have empty lines between them.
Composition
This section is for describing information about how the game's soundtrack, audio, sound effects, etc were composed and created. Info from interviews with the composer(s) are a good source. Any inspirations, insight on the creation process, etc.
Sound test
This section goes over the game's built-in sound test, if it has one. Include a right-floating screenshot of the sound test. If the sound test requires a code to access, mention it here. If there are secrets unlocked via sound test playback (older games mainly), detail them here. This is also a place to list out the tracks/sfx in the sound test menu, within a table. Include the #, type, name (or description if unnamed). If a track, the name should be a link to the track's page.
Soundfonts and instrumentation
This section is for describing what instruments and/or soundfonts were used for the soundtrack. Include info if it was live recordings, if they used specific synthesizers, soundfont libraries, etc. Information about the sound chip if it is a true programmed chiptune track.
Contributors
This section only contains the {{Template:Linked Contributors List}} template. This template automatically populates and displays a table with the contributors linked to this game using a cargo query.
